Considering the diagram below:
Area 3 ----- Area 0 ----- Area 1 ----- Area 2
If area 2 is configured as a stub network, and the virtual-link exists between area 1, where should the 'area 1 stub' command go? On the ABR between area 0 & 1 or area 1 & 2 or both?
I've tried it on both and on the ABR between area 1 and 2. Both methods seem to work, but it there a prefered method?

The virtual link still works with area 2 being a stub area.
So, your area 3 router would see the routes in area 2.

No, the area 2 is stub area and virtual link cross area 1 to area 0,
but the area 1 is not stub area.
