RE: Gig interface stays Up Up on 7606 --- Use UDLD?

Yes. This can be helpful, especially on fiber connections as all that
is required to show an "up" link is to receive something. UDLD can help
detect a situation where the link is really a one way link (that would
normally fool one end into thinking it was up while the other end shows
down) and make the interface go down as it should.

Having said that, if you're having this issue on Gig interfaces between
your 7606s, I'd replace the cable (copper/fiber whatever your using) as
this unidirectional link is mostly a side effect of having a bad cable.
(Unless you run though a provider for GigaMAN services or the like, in
which case you should contact the provider and have them check to see if
the the link is misbehaving). If that doesn't stop it, then you could
have a bad port/GBIC in which case you'd just have to replace them
selectively in order to expose the true culprit.

Either way, I don't know of a downside to running it, so having it adds
that little bit of extra insurance.......

Cisco is recommending UDLD for this. Anyone familiar
and used it successfully in similar circumstances?

Subject: OT: Gig interface stays Up Up on 7606

I've got a couple routers running HSRP on each of their respective Gig
interfaces. I've been having problems with one of them where when its
the active interface, it will somehow lose it's ability to transmit but
will still be able to receive. This seems to cause the interface to stay
up/up and so it doesnt failover to the other router.
This is on a 7606.

Anyone ever seen this before? I cant figure out why
the keepalives dont take the interface down. Is there something I can
do to ensure it goes down when this happens? Some special interface
command?
