Folks!
I am trying to understand Multicast static route use and I need Help.
My understanding is that when a multicast packet destined for a mcast group
address is received at a interface the receiving router would not accept it
unless the sender of the mcast pack or SOURCE is known in the routing table
via the same interface where the mcast packet is received at. (RPF Check) This
is not an issue when that interface is the only path in and out. However this
becomes an issue when the mcast packet is received on a tunnel interface for
example and the unicast route back to source is out of a physical interface.
To make mcast accept the packet we use a static mroute at the receiving
router pointing back to the unicast address of the source.
First I need to know if my understanding is correct and second if there are
any issues that are covered with MCAST Static routes.
Thanks
Imran Shahid
