Re typing in configs - yes this [generally] works well. Entering the alias
list that is not a problem. using it is a problem. ie.
P1
P2
etc

when copy/pasted in will result in character loss. (The problem [original]
(input character buffer overflow) is due the router not being able to say to
the sender - hey wait stop a minute, let me process this command line first
(ie flow control) then give me more. As you have observed the problem is
not as observable in the midst of a cont t - but still exists. The problem
is far more pronounced when typing in commands at the exec level.

Hope that helps

all routers?

Wayne,

What do you mean input character buffer overflow? I've seen times where
I try to paste an entire config thru a console session, and part of the
way thru, the characters get off and the commands get messed up. I've
seen that, but for what you have below I can't see that causing a
problem. I have an alias list 4 times that long, and I can paste it
no problem.

Tell me more about what you mean.

Mike W.
(BTW, so far, this alias thing sounds like the easiest/best solution)

PS Archives checked!!
Also note solutions along the lines of
conf t
alias exec p1 ping 128.200.1.1
alias exec p2 ping 133.10.0.1
alias exec p3 ping 133.10.0.2
alias exec p4 ping 133.10.0.3
end

then
p1
p2
p3
p4
do not work - as input character buffer overflow still results. In fact
it appears more pronounced.
