I think technical people value that "free" internet access pretty highly, or a lot of them are being reimbursed for the room. The Homestead was more like $50, including tax, if I remember correctly, and it was comfortable enough that I had a good day a the Lab. If you are flying, though, the Wingate, with its shuttle, is just the thing.
I stayed at the Wingate Inn in Raleigh when I was using the NC State CCIE practice lab for 5 days. I used one of those coupons that you pick up at highway restaurants and can get on Roomsaver.com. Wingate is indeed a class act, and the Hot Tub is very helpful after a long day on the routers. I would definitely NOT stay at that particular Wingate Inn in Raleigh if I were going to take an Exam at Cisco in RTP. Raleigh/Durham traffic can be every bit as bad as Northern Virginia traffic, so go with the Wingate in RTP/Airport area.
