Thanks for everybody that responded--it is a big help. It's working now, and
it is the idle timeout on the called side that is taking down the line.
Regards,
Connie

Connie.
Put in the called router this:
1-"idle timeout 0" This asigns you the higher idle timeout possible
2- Asign a dialer group to the called interface, and put a dialer-list than
matches all the traffic (i.e. "dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit") . Then,
even in the case you need to maintain up
Then, the called router never disconects because there is interesesting
traffic . I think your problem is this one, the called routed disconnects
when the idle timeout is reached. I have similar problem some days ago and
with this it was solved.

Hi, everybody!
My dialer watch is behaving very strangely. It dials upon losing the
primary
routes and neighbor relationship establishes---that's great, but at the end
of idle time-out however, it would take down the dialer interface. A little
later though, it would redial based on lost primary routes. If I read it
right, at the end of idle timeout, dialer watch is supposed to check if
primary route is there, and if it is not, if will reset its timer----not to
tear down the call. Following is a log of the debug dialer(sorry, it is
kind of long), I would appreciate your help:
-----following you can see dialer watch initate dialing upon losing primary
