RE: token ring (Frame over a GRE Tunnel)

The "aux-to-aux" cable is just a standard console cable (rolled).

Yes, the IP addresses should be on the same subnet but it doesn't matter
what you use. The tunnel actually doesn't need IP addresses. I just put
it in for ease of testing.

A group of people could actually make a very big OSPF hub and spoke
frame-relay cloud by switching the frame-relay DLCI's inside GRE tunnels
and tying their labs together.

Hi Brian,

Great stuff!!! Thanks so much for your awesome config ;) so it means I
could use 2 x 2501 and make it a 4 port Frame-Relay switch?

What cables do you use to link up the AUX ports? Just a normal Ethernet
"straight-thru", or "crossover", or something else?

1 more question from your config. I have break down the config:-

interface tu 0
ip address 192.168.1.5 255.255.255.252 <--- This IP can be anything,
so
long as it is within
tunnel source async 1 it is within the same
subnet
as the remote Tunnel?
tunnel destination 192.168.1.2 <---- remote Async interface

interface Async 1
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.252 <--- Again, can this IP be set
to
anything, so long as
encapsulation ppp it be the
same
subnet as remote Async interface?
async dynamic routing
async mode dedicated

Am I correct?

Thanks so much for your help in advance,

Best Regards,
Hunt

Hello, Brian,

Would You please share example config for making 2 routers connected
back-to-back via AUX
ports to appear as one big FR switch? On CCO I could find example for
PPP only.
Thanks & regards
Alex

You can actually just connect them together via their AUX ports and make
them appear as one big Frame-Relay switch. If you need an example config
let me know.

Subject: token ring

hi group

i have cisco 2600 series router with a token ring port with 4 wic
interfaces which i am using as my frame realy switch i just purchased a
token ring 2500 terminal server which has a 1 token ring port and 2
serial
interfaces. I've looked in archives but cant see anything relevant.
I am looking to find out can i use cross over cable to link my 2 token
ring
routers together back to back, so i can create a tunnel and use the 2500
terminal server serial lines as an addition to my 2600 4 wic interface
router for bigger frame relay network yippee.

if not has anyone got 4 port or 8 port rj45 token ring hub for sale.
that
for the old ccies

many thanks
