I'm completely confused. /29 or /19 might be even better, depending
on the problem you are trying to solve.

How is your network numbering a problem now?

If you are trying to figure out how many hosts can coexist in a VLAN,
that will still depend on the amount of broadcast/multicast traffic
and the power of the hosts. As a very general rule of thumb, it's
probably wise to avoid having more than 500 or so hosts from the
broadcast standpoint, thus /23 for that. But for a graphics-intense
application, or server synchronization, bandwidth could determine the
practical limit.
