I received my number today. I passed my lab on the 1st attempt. I know it
has been said before, but there is no better feeling than reaching a goal
this high. My lab was in San Jose yesterday. The facility was great and the
proctors were very professional. I will be going back to San Jose for my
security IE also simply for those 2 reasons. It is a further trip for me
than it would be to RTP but this was the date I took. My plan of action
went as followed...I arrived the 25th evening (my lab was on the 27th) to
avoid any issues with flights or lack of sleep. I studied some Wednesday and
drove from my hotel to the lab facility to verify directions. I tried to get
to bed early for a good nights rest but of course my nerves didn't help
that. I got up early and left for the lab and was in the parking lot of the
lab by 7:00..yes this is way early but I eliminated the traffic factor and
brushed up on a few commands waiting for 7:40 to roll around. Lunch I had
1/2 a turkey sandwich, a bananna (similar to what Tiger does on the 2nd 9 of
Sunday), and a gatorade. Finished the lab in plenty of time to double check
stuff which is key. I used all of the major players preparation
material..they all played a huge roll in my success. all of the normal
books, caslow, doyle 1 and 2, halabi, solie...I think 2 books that should be
added to the normal list is the parkhurst bgp and ospf books...I would not
have passed without these books. They are to the point and a good read. One
thing I can't emphasize enough is spending time on the routers. Don't just
go through the motions and memorize configs from practice labs. Understand
the concepts and develop additional excersises on top that. Be precise on
every config you practice. Have a plan of attack when you get to the lab.
Practice does not make perfect...perfect practice makes perfect. Im going to
take a break and get back to normal life. Then on to security. Thanks to
everyone for their help and Paul for this list....
