Hey Chrisj,

The best answer you'll find is probably in Jeff Doyle's book Routing TCP/IP.
But, briefly, ISIS supports 2 addressing schema's - regular IP and CLNS.
Since Cisco has removed CLNS from the exam, you don't have to be concerned
with it for the most part. Configuring ISIS, however, does require that
each router have a CLNS address even though you'll only be routing IP
packets.

There's more to it than that but for the details I strongly recommend the
Doyle book.
