I don't know about a production environment, but they work fine in a
home lab.

My Xyplex chassis switch cost me $60 on ebay, and came with 40 working
serial ports.

Configuration was kind of hard, most of the commands are geared to
internet provider dial-in or as400 dial out, etc.

Once I found a canned script for what I wanted, it worked like a charm.

Check the archives for that canned script, I've posted it to the board
more than once.

Subject: Advice: RE: Xyplex Terminal Servers

Guys,

I was wondering if anyone out there had experience of the Xyplex
terminal
servers?. I was looking to deploy some 16 port models to manage a series
of
equipment racks instead of deploying the traditional, "much more
expensive"
2511's. But I was wondering how "configurable" they were, in terms of
user
restrictions and overall management etc.

Thanks in advance,

Regards,
Malcolm
