Emad,

I came across this as well. It appears that if the local router has a route (even just a default) to the tunnel end point, it considers it as up.

There is now a Keepalive feature available for GRE tunnels in one of 12.2 T releases. I think its 12.2(8T).

Check the release notes for 12.2T

Daniel

Subject: Tunnel interface

Dear all,
I have made a tunnel between two routers through another router , but although the connectivity between the source and destination Ips was lost , but the tunnel interface still UP until now , how can I solve this problem , is there any keepalive parameters that sense the loss of connectivity?
Thanx

Emad
