Ok, I have one here for that has got me stuck! I am trying to test DLSW
across a wan (in a test environment) with two workstations. One is
running NT2000 Server and the other is running WinXP Pro. Now I have
seen umpteen articles on how to use NETBRUI to establish a DLSW circuit
and am successful when the two boxes are WIN2000/98, etc. The problem I
run into is when I throw an XP Pro box into the mix. For whatever
reason, it seems to be impossible! I have disabled NETBios over TCP,
install NETBEUI and the device (running XP) directly connected to the
router WILL NOT ADVERTISE ITSELF! I have spent several hours trying to
get this to work, to no avail. Here is the topo:
Win2000 (E0) R2 (S0) --- (S1) R3 (E0) WinXP
Below is the show DLSW reach from R2 which illustrates my frustration.
My question is: has anyone actually attemtped to do what I am doing? I
know that NETBEUI is no longer supported in XP, but you can istall the
driver from the Valueadd directory off the cd, which I have done. The
problem comes up is that when I disable NetBios of TCP on both the
interfaces, the client no longer is listed in it's own workgroup.
However, when I connect this to another Win2000 box, it works fine.
Why not just use Win2000 you may ask. Unfortunately, I need to RDP to
this box for other reasons and Terminal services is not available on
Win2000 Pro. Anyways, if anyone has gotten this to work in the scenario
mentioned, I would be humbly grateful and buy a round if you are ever in
Dallas!
I have also attempted to define static netbios names, but that does work
if the device is not advertising itself to the router.
