Curtis,
The minimum distance for SX and LX is 2 meters.
For the ZX (because the transmit output is between 4.77 and 0 dBm) and the maximum receiver input is -3 dBm) you can burn the receiver if you use them in a distance less than enough to attenuate the gain to be less than -3dBm in the receiver side.
The way to overcome this is to use attenuators (www.fiberdyne.com). Yuo may need if the distance between the 2 switches is such that using a LX is not enough but using a ZX will burn the receiver. We use 5dBm and 10 dBm attenuators.

Does anyone have definitive information on the minimum distance that LX
GBICS should be allowed to operate over Single Mode fiber cables?

I have heard there is an issue with laser burning if the distance is too
short or something to that effect.

Can anyone verify and point to a definitve reference?

Thanks,

Curtis
