You need to think of a 3550 emi more as a multi-port router rather than a
layer 2 CatOS switch. On a router you can manage it via any of it's
interfaces and this is the same with layer 3 interfaces on the 3550. You can
define a loopback interface the same as a router and use that for management
if you wish.
If you are asked to configure a specific vlan as the management interface
then you would need to ask for clarification. It's the same as being asked
to configure Ethernet0 on a router to be the management interface - there
should be more information in the question. If you have been asked to
perform this task in a practice lab then either the question has just been
pulled from an old lab or the author doesn't fully understand the 3550 emi.
You shouldn't get anything this vague on the actual lab.
