Hi Jim,
I don't work with these but I had one in front of me a couple of years
ago and had the same problem. I assume you are using a DB9-RJ45
connector on your laptop's serial port and standard Cisco rollover cable
is not working.
But I seem to recall that a standard ethernet patch cable works (or
maybe it was a standard crossover cable - try 'em both).
