Martin,
Basic facts-
1) Any virtual-link IS a pseudo connection to AREA 0.
2) Any authentication configured IN AREA0 HAS to be
configured under the virtual-links.
3) The virtual-link will remain UP even though
authentication is MIS-configured, but you will NOT be
able to ping the area that is encompassed within the
virtual-link.
I don't know why Cisco let's the virtual-link be up
even if there is authentication misconfiguration, but
that is how it is.
