Hi all,
I have passed CCIE lab, from Bangalore (INDIA) on Dec 14th at first attempt.
Thanks to the whole group, which helped me a lot in making it at the first
attempt.
Many of the postings really helped me to get inside out of several
technologies , problems & solutions which you face in real life scenarios,
and get to know many of the technologies "really well", which is what the
CCIE Lab exam - from my feeling- is up to.
It was really tough for me, never thought that I could make it coz I never
had no time to re-look and re-confirm the whole stuff.
I did most of the testing right after each section of the exam, may be coz
that I ran out of time, but I am happy that I made it ..:))
I am happy to share some of my experience without violating the NDA ....
1. Be comfortable with Documentation CD
This is your only gateway of last resort . If you don't know
something, you can still do it and score if you know where to find it on
Documentation CD and use it. I had few questions which I was not sure how to
do, But I knew it was there in doc CD, which helped me to configure it. But
make sure you can find it without taking much time
2. Understanding the stuff not just learn. It has to be there on your blood.
Never expect "direct questions", So never learn just to setup any
protocol or technology. You should know how it works, and what all twists
can be made with it, understand it inside out, features up to the latest
IOS code are being tested on the lab exam.
3. Speed
It matters, very much , both at doing the config as well as
"understanding the questions correctly". No second chance, as time is very
limited.
4. Experience/Training
I never had a senior to ask questions or some one to consult when I
had problems other than this list as well as the other CCIE theory list . My
guru was CCO website and documentation.
I Could never attend any boot camp or training (no $$..:-))..just
self study...right from my CCNA, NP, DP, CCIE theory and now LAB.
Try doing things yourself, experiment as long as you are not on the
exam. And always experiment while learning. challenge the protocol you are
working with. try to learn its limitations not just features, and not just
learn how each stuff operates, but also how it operates or interoperate with
others.
5. Practice Lab
Try to get one of two practice labs if available at your exam
location. If you are a first timer, it may help coz you are not going to see
strange places, people , racks and routers on the exam date.
6. Confidence
be cool and confident.Else you can not face the lab "Challenge"
Also, here are some of the WebPages & Books I used during my studies...
URL
1. www.fatkid.com --> check the practice labs..
2. www.ciscopress.com --> for ISIS Document, available as a supplement to
BSCN Book
3. http://www.ccbootcamp.com/download/ Check this URL, Few Docs, on DLSW
etc. also few practice labs I think
4. http://www.cisco.com/public/technotes/serv_tips.shtml --> check here.
few tricks and tips and detailed technical Info also.
5. 3550 Documentation on CCO -> very useful have a look
books
1. ICRC , ACRC Books, (old ones) from Cisco
2. CCNP and CCDP Set
3. CCIE Practical Studies Vol 1 , Cisco press --> a Must Have
Above all, experience and hands-on practice, can help you to make it.
All the best for those who are in pursuit of it.
Have a nice day,
Regards
Rajesh
