Well, a couple top line thoughts before I get some sleep. First off, you
need an area 0.0.0.0. If you're routers are configured as described, you
do not have one and thus your routing will not function. Indeed, it will
work pretty much the way you described that it is working now.
Virtual link wise, you again need an area 0 to VL to. Furthermore, as has
been pointed out, you cannot use a stub area as transit for a VL since the
remote ABR would not see any type 5 lSAs which would be bad.
