Hello Nate,
Area authentication is something related to ospf. Where all the routers in
an area support either type 1 or type 2 authentication. Link authentication
can be configure for any link such as ppp or ISDN. It is either pap (clear
text) chap (encrypted password) There is a question in IPExpert where the
isdn link has chap authentication and also is configured in an ospf area
with authentication.

Subject: Link vs. Area Authentication
Is there a difference between link and area authentication?
