A multicast router configure with the ip pim bsr-candidate statement will
listen to all advertisement by the multicast routers configured with ip pim
rp-candidate. Then it forms a list composed of all RPs. The bsr router will
advertise this list of rps to all multicast routers. Then all multicast
router will pick the rp form this list. The algorithm for choosing the rp
will make all multicast routers pickup the same rp. If the chosen rp fails
and the hold time passes, all multicast routers will pick the second router
in the rp list.

Subject: RP redunduncy in PIM ver 2
Hello
In PIM ver 1, if you configure more than one router as RP "ip pim
rp-annouce", the highest ip address will be elected as RP. What about
PIM ver 2 "ip pim rp-candidate", how to do redundancy and how the
election will occur?
Abdallah
