Fiber repeater design question

I have just purchased 4 4006's with LX GBics. I was told the the SMF
infrastructure is in place and has been tested good. As it turns out this is
not the case and I can't get budget for another 20K to run SMF for the final
few hundred feet from the local distribution point to the access switch(the
4006).

I was thinking about using line conditioned patch cords to get 1800 feet out
of the extensive MMF infrastructure. Problem is that the MMF runs are about
3000 feet. Has anyone ever used passive fiber repeaters using MMF with gig
LX gbics?

Canary has a repeater for 100 meg only so that wont work.

Thanks in advance for any input.
