All,

Thanks for the idea. Maybe I did not explain it clearly, let me make it
a bit clear. The requirement is to make all the routers running RIP learn
the route in OSPF domain by redistribution from OSPF rather than directly
learning the route by rip advertising from the border router (the router
running both rip and ospf).
As we know, RIP is a classful routing protocol, so we can only put
classful "network x.x.x.x" under "router rip" configuration mode. So if the
scenario is class B address with /24 subnetmask all over the place, when we
enable rip on the border router, the ip addresses in ospf domain which is
on the border router also has been included in RIP domain. What bothered me
is how can we prevent these ip addresses being included in RIP domain?
While all routers in RIP domain still need to be able to reach these ip
addresses in ospf domain by redistribution from ospf on border router. Is
this possible?

As far as I know, passive interface won't be the solution. Because it
only disable the border router from updating the routing information
through that certain interface. And I don't see how filter list works.
Because if we filter the route being advertise to other rip routers, the
route redistributes from ospf will also be filtered. Right?
Correct me if I am wrong and sorry for the influent English. That's
something I need to work on after this test. :-)

Frank,

You can make you of passive interfaces
That is, place a passive interface on the interface/s you don't want RIP to
shout out from
You can also do the same for OSPF

Hope this helps

Subject: is this possible?

Group,

If a router running both rip and ospf, all the ip addresses on the
router are class B with /24 subnetmask.
When I enable rip on the router, I have to enable the whole classB
network, in this case the ip addresses configured in ospf domain also
belong and advertise through rip now.
My question is, how could I prevent the ip address in ospf domain being
advertised through rip directly, so the routers in rip domain only learn
these route by the redistribution of ospf.
  Thanks in advance.

Frank
