There's one more rule to it. Should you fail your first attempt, you can't
wait for more than one year for your next attempt.

You have 18 months from the day that you pass the written to take your
FIRST
attempt at the lab. Should you fail, you have up to 3 years from the date
you passed the written to pass the lab. After three years, if you have not
passed the lab exam, you will need to take the written again. Refer to
http://www.cisco.com/go/ccie for official details.

Subject: Validity of ccie written
Hi Group,
Does any body know how soon should I try the CCIE lab once I pass the CCIE
written? I believe it is one year, but a freind told me I have 18 months to
try the lab or I will have to take the written exam again.
Thanks
