Subject: BGP maximum paths

Hi,
In BGP, I can use "maximum-paths" to load balance outgoing traffic over a
maximum of 6 paths provided the destination route is advertised from the
same neighbouring AS.....i.e next hop for all the 6 paths have to be in the
same AS.....

Is there any thing else that would affect the outgoing traffic to be load
balanced...?

Like say if the AS path of these 6 paths are different...Normally BGP
installs one route with the shortest AS path.......If I say maximum path 4,
will BGP install 4 path without considering the AS path.....

I am reading the example on pg 380 from Halabi and the example the book
states has the routes having the same AS path.....But it doesnt mention a
case where BGP attributes are different.......

Regards,
Vijay.
