Paul,
I was curious about the same thing so I sent an email to ccie@cisco.com a
couple of months ago. They answered the question and confirmed that there
will be 2 3550s in the CCIE Lab racks. I am struggling with this because in
my home lab I dont have any 3550s and they are not cheap so buying two of
them is going to be tough. I believe it is vital to have two 3550s to
practice with because there some things that could get tricky in regards to
Spanning Tree, Trunking and Per VLAN Spanning Tree and other topics that
require two 3550s to practice.

Subject: Question on lab equipment 2 x 3550?
Hi Group:
I see alot of people who are renting equipment on
the net have lab equipment which contains dual
Catalyst 3550s. Is there a reason for this? Does it
really take 2 3550s to prep for the new lab exam?
If there are alot of scenarios that I need to practice
which require 2x3550s then maybe I should either get 2
Cat3550s or rent time some somone that has it.
Curios mind would like to know, thanks in advance.
Regards,
Paul Young.
