Loopbacks would be preferred because the connection
will stay up in case of a route failure, if there are
multiple routes, backup, etc.
The dlsw peer has to a valid IP address that is
reachable via a routing protocol. Whereas a OSPF RID
has to be unique on every router and doesn't need to
be a valid IP address. (There are other vendors that
use a hash of MAC address and serial # for OSPF RID by
default, which comes nowhere close to an assigned IP
address on the box). Using an interface IP address is
preferred for RIDs because it makes troubleshooting
easier :)
