Guys, here's the URL
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1835/products_confi
guration_guide_chapter09186a00800bd8ed.html#xtocid2
watch the wrap
Plus this formula is also mentioned in IP Qos by Vegesna (Cisco Press)
basically the value is derived from :
normal burst = CIR x (1byte / 8 bits) x 1.5
extended burst = normal x 2
so 1/8 x 1.5 = 0.1875
and thats how you get the appropriate values for normal & extended burst.
Pl. note that I had played around with a few different values (nb = CIR/2000
is mentioned at a few places, but it doesnt work) and I couldnt 'transmit' at
CIR, basically the avg. rate that you get should be equal to CIR.
Configuring an extended burst above normal burst doesnt mean that you are
'always' transmitting above CIR, but that the long term average is maintained
at CIR (check out the discussion on accumulated debt & comound debt & token
bucket)
