Use Doyle's example. You need to associate the key with the
server/peer. I.e. "ntp server 1.2.3.4 key 1".
"Show ntp association detail" to see if it's actually
authenticated. If not, remove the "ntp server 1.2.3.4 key 1", and then
replace it. I've heard many people say they've had to wait a long time
for NTP to sync. This is not true. NTP should not take more than 10 or
20 seconds to synchronize. If it is not syncing, remove the server/peer
statement and replace it.
Solie's book has a lot of errors, make sure you get the errata
from the Cisco Press site. I'm not saying that the book is not good,
just be aware of the mistakes.
