Tools are always great and can assist in learning and checking your work for
accuracy, but your not going to have this in the lab so I would know how to
do it by hand or in your head.
I would say (and this is only my opinion) that if you need tools to do
summarization or subnetting etc. and you cannot do this in your head (or on
paper) it is likely if not absolute, that you will not pass the CCIE exam.
I am not knocking tools. If you are using a tool because you do not know how
to summarize without it you are already in trbouble.
