Chenyan,

the real key is to differentiate the default behaviour of a classfull routing protocol and a
classless routing protocol.
I'm not sure what is the point of you stateent that different subnets can be summarized
automatically ? Is it autosummary ?
if you redistribute a subnet into RIP and expect this subnet to be sent accros a link to another RIP
router, the following is what the router will do
1. RIP will check if the subnet that is going to be sent is within the same subnet with the
interface through which the route is going to be sent.
2. If it's not send the summary on the major network.
3. If it's of the same major network, check the subnet mask. If it's the same send it, if it's not
drop it.

The important point to remember is that a classfull routing protocol does not have any subnet
information. So even when the route is receive on the other end, the only way the for RIP to
determine the subnet mask of the route is by checking the subnet mask of the interface from where
the route is received

Hope this helps and please someone correct me if I'm wrong

Donny

hi,guys

I know that in a rip process the different subnets can be summarized automatically, but when
redistributing from a ospf into a rip, is it that the summarization occure as the same way?

Thanks
