Tom,

One of the first thing you might want to do is to become familiar with both the inside and outside channel AM's and SE's in your region. They can be a great help to you in understanding partner relationships. They also have the bee-line to what's hot and what's not. They can also warn you about do's and don's that can be pivotal in navigating your career.
You have completed a monumental task in getting your CCIE. The next major task is understanding the eighth layer of the OSI model which is POLITICS! I don't know what region of the country you are in, but in the Northeast especially the Big Apple, these tools can be invaluable.
I know in my situation I worked for a Tier II reseller who used all my certifications to satisfy Cisco's requirements for Tier II. When I left they had up to 1 year to obtain new certified engineers to fulfill the requirement. My certifications were still valid at the next reseller.
