OT: Trunk between Cat 4K and Cat 3548XL

Hi all,

I have a question about VLAN pruning.

We have a Cat 4006 and Cat 3548XL trunk together. Cat 4006 acts as VTP server and 3548XL is client. For some reasons, we created 200 sub-interfaces (using dot1q encapsulation and VLAN range 400~600) on a 7200 fastethernet interface which connected to the Cat 4K. We have about 400 VLANs totally. Because Cat 3548XL only supports 254 VLAN maximum. Once the VLAN number is over 254, the 3548XL become transparent mode automatically. We want to deny VLAN 400~600 pass through the trunk between 2 switch. We also want to permit VLAN 400~600 pass through the trunk interface to 7200 only.

Can anybody tell me how to do it? If we deny VLAN 400~600 pass through the trunk between 2 switch, will Cat 3548XL stay in the VTP domain as client?

Thanks

Hongtu Wang
