I am using Hutnik and Satterlee's CCIE Lab Practice Kit (OSPF). One of
the requirements of the OSPF lab is to filter certain routes from showing
up in all downstream router's databases. The solution provided in the
book uses distribute-list in to prevent the routes from being added to
each downstream router's database. The routes were external type 2 routes
(E2 in the routing table) which were redistributed via redistribution of
connected routes.
After a little research I found examples of the following:
1. Documentation supporting the use of distribute-list in OSPF under any
circumstance
2. Documentation supporting the use of distribute-list in OSPF only when
filtering intraarea and interarea routes (O and IA) and not externals.
3. Documentatoin supporting the fact that distribute-list in does not
work well in OSPF and is not really supported.
Does anyone have a definitive answer on when distribute-list in can be used
in OSPF? I am using various flavours of IOS 12.1.
