You should check out the Cat3550 documentation, there
are some significant differences between the 3550 and
the 2948G-L3. The ports on the 2948G-L3 by default
are routable, where as the Cat3550 ports are active as
layer 2 ports only, you have to use a "no switchport"
command on the interface to make it routable. I
believe you can also group switch ports together and
create SVI interfaces which are pretty much BVI
interfaces. Beyond that, routing and multicasts are
almost identical between the two.

Imagine the 3550 as a Cat2924 + Cat2948G-L3
combined...
