My two cents:
The 3550 is going to offer some features that can be used to test up coming
IE's. Think about some of the functions that it supports with EMI.
1. Trunking switch to switch (ISL, Channeling)
2. More VTP
3. Span config has changed a lot! You can even have more than one session.
4. Network Switch Diameter.
5. Routing Protocols.......Ouch...
Not to mention all the good old features in the 5k.

I think that will be great. I predict that QOS will be a great possibility.
With 3950's at the edge marking the packets and the 3550 at distribution
making the priority decisions.
With VoIP taking center stage in the market, QOS is a must.
The other items will be more complex VLAN utilizing MLS. Since they are
specifying the EMI image this one is a no-brainer.
On the up side, the 3550 EMI ONLY does IP. So everything else is gone.
That's my thoughts. I too would be interested in other thoughts.
