If you find that the labs you are doing are a challenge and are continuing
to introduce you to new topics and ideas and such then I would continue to
do them. If you are often needing to use the CD as a reference to complete
the labs I would continue to do the labs. This is just my opinion and
thinking.

If you can go through your labs without having to use the CD as a reference
then I would start reading through the CD.

Most of the labs I am doing now seem to be trivial (menotonous and getting
boring) and I rarely if ever have to look on the CD for a solution. This is
where I was at on my second attempt as well. I did not read the CD either,
only used it as a reference tool on occasion. What I found was that there
were many items that were missed by the labs I had done (CCIE Bootcamp,
Solution Labs, IPExpert, CCIE Practical and a bunch of Cisco SE). Especially
the little knobs and switches or some of the more obscure topics that I
never saw on the labs like some of the TCP security features (aside from the
normal IPSEC stuff).

Another way to look at it is that you will find anything and almost
everything that could be in the lab on the CD. With practice labs on the
other hand you are only getting what the inventors think might be useful to
you. A way of applying knowledge. However you would have to do a lot more
labbing then I think there are labs to cover all the topics and commands
found on the CD.

P.S.
HAN NGUYEN,
If you read this -- GOOD LUCK IN OCTOBER
