Physical the issue is no problem to upgrade the 3550 from SMI to EMI.

The issue is the legal purchase of the software upgrade from Cisco.

Cisco also states that the software site is monitored by Cisco support staff fo
r proper licensing.

Understand that the same is not true for the 2950 family where as the SMI and E
MI software issue is also a hardware issue difference between the SMI and EMI h
ardware platforms.

Just remember guys and girls "Keep it legal"

and have fun.

Subject: 3550 - SMI & EMI question

Besides the licensing issues, what does it take to turn a 3550 with SMI to 3550
 with EMI?

Are the 2 OSes interchangeable or is there some sort of licensing software key
involved?

Robert
