My opinion is that I would definitely do it for any trunk ports. Besides
that, use the lab as your guide. I personally would only configure the
speed/duplex settings if the lab instructed me to. Time is of the essence
and I don't think you want to waste any of it doing unnecessary tasks. My
2cents.
