Sept. 24th in San Jose. Im on the Security track so I was rather limited on
where I could take it.
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that thinks the search engine
sucks. Man, I was going nuts trying to figure out how to search.
I have spent the last 3 months getting used to HyperTerminal, so now I can
actually function in it. I figure if I can account for all the "little"
things, like being comfortable with the terminal access, and the CD search
engine, then I will not be as stressed during the lab.
I wonder if they would let me bring in my own keyboard? That is the thing
that I am really worried about.
I already know that my first command is going to be "no ip domain-lookup" :)
Does anyone else lack the ability to type on foreign keyboards, or is it
just me? I bet I'm 70+ on my PC/Desktop, but sit me in front of someone
else's keyboard and I would be faster with the Hunt&Peck method.
Thanks
Larry

Larry,
Unfortunately the secret is not to use the search engine. It is one of the
worst search features I have ever seen and I think most individuals on the
list would agree.
The easiest way to learn where things are is to use the CD exclusively.
One little trick is if I can't find the appropriate command or configuration
guide, I go to the master index and look up the command, click the link, and
select the 'Contents' button at the top.
When you select the 'Contents' button it takes you up one level and you can
back track to determine how to navigate to the location in the future
without using the slow master index in the future.
Use this method to relate what topics are in what guides, for instance, do
you know where to look on the CD for an example configuration IPSEC tunnel?
You probably know, or should know, one of the commands like "crypto." Look
it up in the Master Index and work your way up until you know how to get
there from the Command and Configuration Guides.
Also, all configuration examples are at the end of the particular
configuration guides for each topic.
When is your date and where?

Subject: Doc CD hints
Well,
I'm under a month from my first attempt, and I'm now at the point of trying
to hit all the little things. I have only recently started using the DOC CD,
and I am finding it very difficult to find what I want quickly. Does anyone
have any hints on how to phrase your search to find what you need? I figure
there must be a secret, I just don't know what it is.
Thanks
