You don't have to rely on the fonts available within your email clients to
do this.
To create good ASCII art diagrams or tables, just open up the Notepad or
VI, if you like ;-)
do all you want within there and copy and paste into your email message
destined for GS list.

You have a very good point.
The only problem I see is that everyone needs to agree to a standard
font. I have outlook running with this message send in plain text, and
my font options are greyed out.
I assume I can set a default plain text font somewhere in the outlook
options.
Jezzee, I just checked, I dont have any monospaced fonts listed. I was
looking for Lucida Fixed I used with Hyperterm. Maybe Lucida Console
which is listed is the same one.
So not only do we need the same font settings, but maybe even a place to
download that font.
At the very least we could add a tag line, best viewed with XYZ font in
our emails, like they do with resolutions on web pages.
Now, if I can that visio save as ascii art option working! <smile>

Guys, Gals,
Do you think it would be possible for all of you,
to whenever you send ascii art, format it with monospaced font?
Problem with majority of ascii arts sent to group is that they
are created with an assumption, that all email clients will render
such lines of text in the same way. This is unfortunately false.
Unless you will choose font in which all characters occupies exactly
the same space, like for instance courier.
This will improve legibility of such diagrams for everybody
And, I am not suggesting by any means, to post HTML to the group!
But when you create your ascii art, or tables, or anything which
depends on size of the space character, please format it in monospaced
font.
What do you think? Agree, disagree?
Thanks,
Przemek
