Some of the differences I can think of offhand are:
- 3550 has protected ports, where 6500 has full
support of private VLANs. I've never done Native IOS
private VLAN config so don't know how different it is.
3550 has clustering, cms web interface, etc.
3550 software upgrade procedure is different... tar
archives and unix'ish flash file system.
3550 has dot1q tunneling, but so does 6500. cat5k
doesn't.
3550 has vlan database.
