Hi,

I had similar problem, you will find that you are not able to assign IP
addresses to virtual token ring in OS 12.1, if you try os 12.0(16) or lower
should be ok

Router4(config)#int virtual-TokenRing 0
Router4(config-if)#ip add
Router4(config-if)#ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

% IP addresses may not be configured on a Virtual-TokenRing interface.

Router4(config-if)#

do you have to specify a global command or something else? I'm running
IOS 12.1. However, ipx network command works. go figure.
