Manny,

"Cisco claims that the 5000 can do 4094 Vlans like the standards say."

I believe they may have mislead you. I don't believe the Cat 5 family
supports the extended 802.1Q VLAN ID space, other than to map it into the
VLAN ID space that ISL supports (1-1000).

The 6.3 software config guide, Sup-III data sheet and a few TAC notes all
seem to support this limitation. Do you have a link to the information that
implies otherwise?

Subject: Extended VLAN Range

Hello,

I have conflicting information from Cisco docs on the web. I am trying to
get a Cat
5500 with SupIII / RSM to allow extended VLAN's in the 802.1q standard of
4096. Cisco
supports up to 4094 I believe.

On a Cat 6000 this is trivial: you turn on MAC ADDRESS REDUCTION and then
you can
start assigning VLAN's above 1000 up to 4094 and also assign it to trunks.

But, on a Cat 5500, this is not possible. I mean I can turn on mac address
reduction,
but the box still only lets me put in up to 1000 vlan. Cisco claims that the
5000 can
do 4094 Vlans like the standards say. They also talk about mapping between
ISL and
dot1q vlans (which is what I do not want) but I am running into road blocks.

Before I call TAC for the skinny, I figured let me try my luck on the forum.
Thank you.

The switch config is:
