"The CCIE program started in August, 1993. The first CCIE was Stewart Biggs,
CCIE #1025. The lab itself was given the designation 1024, which is an even
power of two (2**10), a well-known number to computer and networking people.

In August Terry Slattery took the first CCIE test ever given. Stewart was
the proctor. It was based on assembling several AGS+ routers from boxes of
parts and cables, properly configuring them, and demonstrating that the
requirements of the test were met. As with all CCIE tests, it incorporated
extensive hands-on work. In those days, the DTE devices required special
interface hardware to implement a back-to-back DCE to DTE connection. "

Here's a tricky one. Who did Cisco pick as lab exam writers and proctors in
the early days? Without CCIEs to write and proctor, what did they compare
it's difficulty to? Or did they just beta test until only 15% or so could
pass it.

Terry Slattery was CCIE #1026, and was with Chesapeake at the time,
IIRC.

Never did find out who was #1025.
