eigep reditribute other router protocol

    can you tell me when other routing protocol ( eg static ospf rip) redistrib
ute into eigrp must have a metric .eg

router eigrp 100
redi osfp 1 metric * * * * *
if you remove the (metric * * * * )
if it can work?
