I am not a CCIE, but I wouldn't apply for a job where I would be the Lord of
my domain of 2 routers and a couple of switches. Maybe if they threw in 2
servers and 2 hubs, then I would consider it. In fact, if I could also
configure a couple of printers and perhaps a fax machine or two with best
practices in addition to the switches, then we would be talking about some
serious action. Throw in some highly-available crossover cable crimping and
some really long days dealing with arrogant, impatient, stupid end users
that can't figure out why their icons have disappeared, and you have a
career in the making. My guess is that I would last in that job until I got
my boss fired and took his job or I got fired for trying to get him fired.

Of course, then the job did say "no CCIEs", right. Maybe everyone should
just take that at face value.

Matt

Sorry about the OT, but here's a question relevant to most of us:

Why do you suppose a company would post a job and specifically say that
they don't
want to hear from any CCIE's? I'm a little surprised and outraged by this.
Are there so
many CCIE's in Chicago looking for work (other than yours truly) that they
need to put
this stipulation in the description to keep a few hundred otherwise
unqualified CCIE's
from flooding their recruiters' mail boxes? Has the telecom deep-6 left this
field that
damaged? Has the credential now become a liability on my resume?

Any thoughts?
