3550 xmodem problems PLEASE HELP as I have fallen and can't get up

Here is the syntax I'm using.. This 3550 boot system is nothing but trouble..

switch: copy -b 1000 xmodem:c3550-i5q3l2-mz.121-9.EA1c.bin
flash:c3550-i5q3l2-mz.121-9.EA1c.bin
Begin the Xmodem or Xmodem-1K transfer now...

CCxmodem:c3550-i5q3l2-mz.121-9.EA1c.bin: I/O error

What are the proper steps to set up hyper terminal? I have the normal 9600,
and I'm selecting the correct directory to send file from...
