Peter,

Cisco 3005 VPN concetrator is a good choice for
securely and remotely accessing the network. You must
use Cisco VPN client software to establish the IPSec
tunnel. You can also use windows 2000 VPN client to
establish PPTP or L2TP tunnel.
For authentication, you can either use NT domain or
Radius. You may also maintain the local database in
3005.

For most of the installations that I did, I usually
set the NT domain authentication and the users
accessing the network with Cisco (IPSec) client
software.
