Hi,
The best book I have about DHCP is:
THE DHCP HANDBOOK
Understanding, Deploying, and managing Automated Configuration Services
Ralph Droms & Ted Lemon
ISBN 1-57870-137-6
Right after I bought this book I got a BOOTP/DCHP case that was strange.
A customer had central DHCP servers and BOOTP servers and used DHCP relay
on RSM modules. The clients was diskless and asked DHCP servers on one
segments for IP address and BOOTP servers on another segment for the
bootimage and location.
It worked fine with the RSM and it did not work when they upgraded to
Catalyst 6509 with MSFC2. So what is the difference? The RSM(!) and the
client(!)module was the parts that did not follow the the RFC. So after
upgrading firmware on the clients NICs it all worked perfect.
It was all described so nice in this book. It was easy to find the error.
It also have Sniffer optputs with descriptions from DHCP sessions.

Hi Andre~
I was interested in your post after reading your reply.
I was wondering which books/ISBN numbers/ Do you have in your library
for DHCP?
My book habit needs feeding again.
My company is doing ADSL now and I am very interested in knowing the
intricate details of how DHCP works. I am already familiar with the
basic functions.
Please let me know if this request was out of line.
Thank you,
Jim
